Are you moving out of halls and don’t know what to do with all of your odd bits of kitchenware? Perhaps you’re joining us in September, and would like to avoid the costs of new bowls and plates?
Donate your Plate is the answer to unwanted move-out waste and initial move-in costs!
This initiative will offer you a place to donate any unwanted kitchen waste – from forks and spoons to pots and pans. So, if you have any perfectly good items, that could be useful for someone when you leave them behind, donate them now.
We will be holding collection points Monday – Friday every week in June 2024 in the Richmond Building entrance and several places in Senate House: SU Loft, SU Living Room 2 and the SU Swapshop in SU Living Room 1 PLUS pop-ups in Berkeley House (the Berkeley House pop-up will be open throughout August too)!
The aim of the campaign is to collect items that The British Heart Foundation is unable to sell in the shops, therefore combatting the waste produced when first years move out of halls. All items collected will then be offered to new and returning students in Welcome Week – creating a sustainable cycle! Last year, we collected/ gave out an incredible 1508 items to 462 students.

Last year, our Donate Your Plate/ Take a Plate campaign received national news coverage from the BBC in their article Bristol and Bath Universities help student combat move out waste. The BBC commented that "Take a Plate has seen more than 1000 items donated by departing students in June which has helped about 250 new students save money on buying kitchenware this term. These are items that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill, despite being in good condition."
