Being a member of committee is a great way to supplement your University your experience and develop skills you can take forward into employability

We're here to help you as much as we can. We offer in-house training throughout the year and give you the support you need in your role. Use the information below to find out more.

Training Calendar

We provide training and support throughout the year on a variety of topics to help student group leaders develop new skills and build memorable experiences for their members.

Combining our own in-house training with a range of guest facilitators, we hope the programme has something for everyone.

Committee Quest

New for 2024, CommitteeQuest aims to help committees form connections and begin working together as a cohesive and successful team. We’ll be asking you to engage in committee team building exercises, a workshop session around values and (the best bit!) sending you out on a treasure hunt around Bristol!

Taking place the week after final exams (usually the first week of June), we'll send committee members full details of how to book and what sessions are running

When is it?

CommitteeQuest will run from Monday 3 – Wednesday 5 June 2024 in the Bristol SU Living Room and we are asking committees to book on to one of these days only.

What is the programme?

Each session will run between 10am and 2pm, helping committee members get to know each other and form good working relationships. You’ll be taking part in:

  • Icebreaker games and team building exercises. Connect with fellow committee members through fun activities designed to foster collaboration and camaraderie.
  • A Treasure Hunt. Head out into Bristol for a fun Treasure Hunt that will help your team develop communication skills and problem solving.
  • Facilitating Planning and Values Workshop. A thought-provoking exercise to build a shared understanding between committee members, helping you understand yourself and each other so that that you can work together effectively over the academic year.

How do I book?

One committee member should book a ticket for their group. By booking, you are confirming that the group committee is available and will all attend.

Please do not book unless you are certain of attendance as tickets are limited.

Tickets are available on a first-come basis, and you must inform us if you are no longer able to attend.

You can book your ticket here.

Committee Fest

Designed to empower and inform, Committee Fest is Bristol SU's annual training conference for new and returning committee members. Hosted virtually, our sessions will prepare you to lead successful student groups and develop your skills.

All recordings and resources from this year's Committee Fest can be found here

When is it?

Committee Fest training sessions will run from Monday 10 – Friday 14 June 2024.

What is the programme?

We’re pleased to have on offer 24 individual training sessions over the week, more than we’ve ever done in previous years! Trainers will be a mix of Bristol SU Staff experts, University colleagues and the Bristol SU Development Team. We will also be operating morning drop-in sessions for any quick questions you may have for the Development Team.

All recordings and resources from this year's CommitteeFest can be found here

How do I book?

All sessions are now available to book on the form below. Training sessions will take place via Zoom and we will email you the link to the specific training room in advance, along with any additional content or instructions.

Bristol SU Learning Space

Finding time to attend training sessions isn't always easy so we have produced some short e-learning modules that can be completed in your own time, along with some longer courses for those who really want to get to know their role.

The Learning Space is also where you will complete essential training modules for reaffiliation

New sessions and live recordings of group training will be added throughout the year so do keep checking back!

Bristol PLUS

Maximise your time at university by achieving the Bristol PLUS Award.

Your experience as a Student Leader or student committee member, whether past or present, can count towards Experience hours for your PLUS Award, allowing you to gain extra recognition for your role.

By reflecting on the transferable skills you’ve developed in your role, the Bristol PLUS Award helps give you the confidence to tell employers about your passion and succeed at interviews.

You can use past or present experience that took place alongside your degree towards your PLUS Award – so you might already have most of the evidence you need to achieve! The Award is formally recognised on your degree transcript and at graduation, giving your CV a boost and helping you stand out to employers.
