WELCOME TO THE CELL!
The Cell was established to provide formal representation to all students studying Cellular and Molecular Medicine at The University of Bristol. However, The Cell is open to all students, whether you are studying a Medical Sciences related course (CMM, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology), or just interested in the field of Medical Sciences. Regardless of the course you do, you are welcome to join The Cell!
The vast field of cellular and molecular medicine (CMM) includes disciplines such as cancer biology, infection and immunology, biochemistry, microbiology and stem cell biology. In this exciting field, scientists play a key role in translating science into medicine. By expanding our understanding of human disease, we can improve existing treatments or develop new treatments to treat devastating diseases.
In 2023/24, The Cell committee held numerous exciting events, providing opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals, expand your scientific knowledge beyond the lecture theatre, and network within the biomedical industry.
Successful events included:
- Give It A Go! Sessions: "Paint and Sip" and "Scavenger Hunt around Bristol Student spots"
- Life Sciences Halloween Night
- Pumpkin Carving Contest
- Study session
- Christmas Formal
- Movie night
- Bath Christmas Market and Ice Skating
- Life Sciences Bar Crawl
- Life Sciences Summer Formal
- Career talks on topics in cancer biology, microbiology, virology and immunology

This year, we intend to hold even more fun events this year with a focus on regular academic events, inclusive socials, and opportunities to network within the biomedical industry.
On top of that, we will continue to run a Parenting Scheme, making sure that there is a family to suit everyone's interests to help create a tight-knit family atmosphere for all first-year students in the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. The Parenting Scheme also offers a place to seek advice about uni life from your fellow students. We will also run some exciting Give It A Go! sessions, you will get to experience these taster sessions for free to see if you want to become a member of The Cell!
