Description

Welcome to the University of Bristol Touch Rugby Club!

UBTRC is the university's most enthusiastic sports society; come join in and we'll prove it!

UBTRC offers students a platform to play sport at any level they wish. Some students just enjoy a run around and the socials, whereas others are keen to represent the university at the BUCS championships! We make sure there is something for everyone.

For those who want to join our social sessions and the weekly social, the social membership is perfect for you! This year, upon popular request, we have separated the social membership in 2 terms so you can take your time committing your time and effort!

If you find you want to develop further in the sport, our competitive membership include 2 training sessions a week. Alongside this, you can join our weekly league games against other South-West teams, and represent the University of Bristol at national tournaments. Join through the link above, the membership is £60 (£50 for social members) + mandatory £25 SEH Pass fee. We promise you will get your money's worth throughout the year! As proud winners of the Team Spirit award, we can vouch that UBTRC is the best club on the circuit!

We keep a busy social calendar ranging from pub crawl socials to ‘family’ evenings. With three training sessions a week plus socials, we always have something to do, somewhere to go, and someone to hang out with; all you need to do is come along and meet us!  As a club that plays in mixed teams of all gender identification, we pride ourselves on our inclusivity and diversity!

Touch refers to Touch Rugby, a relatively grassroots sport in England, has been seeing something of a revolution over the past few years; so now really is the time to get involved! The game evolved from rugby league and follows some of the same ideas of contact rugby - getting the ball to one end of the pitch and placing it down over the score line in order to score. There are some pretty key differences though...

Touch is a minimal contact sport; tackles are replaced by (usually!) gentle touches. After 6 touches the ball is 'turned over' to the other side, allowing them an opportunity to score.

A touch team can have up to 14 players but only 6 are on the pitch at any time, meaning that there is a constant turnover of players on the pitch. We play in mixed teams of all gender identification so our teams have a variety of people all with different skills and attributes. The best way to learn is to come along and Give it a Go! Our Wednesday social sessions on Durdham Downs are perfect for those who are keen to try something new and be part of a fun and friendly student community!
