This is your opportunity to shape what social events look like this year, within your hall of residence. Postgraduate Hall Reps work together with our Senior Residents, and other members of the Student Communities Team, to create social events for students living in each of our Postgraduate Halls – whether that’s an evening of boardgames and bubble tea, or a trip to the theatre.
This voluntary role only requires a couple of hours of work each week, and is a great way to meet new people, build community, and develop important skills that will aid you in your life post-University.
Each Postgraduate Halls of Residence has at least one Postgraduate Hall Rep, who advises and supports the organising and hosting of events for students living in these halls. The role is a voluntary position, only requiring a couple of hours of time per week, but the rewards are immeasurable – bringing students together, seeing friendships blossom, and watching the community grow.
In previous years our Postgraduate Hall Reps have helped organise and host events within Halls such as quizzes, pool tournaments, and arts and craft evenings, as well as events in the city, such as bowling and pottery painting.
There is no specific experience required for this role, you just need to be passionate about making your Hall of Residence a happy, fun, and inclusive space for students. Postgraduate Hall Reps are supported by student-staff and full-time staff from the University’s Student Communities team, who will be there to support and empower you to fulfil the role to the best of your ability.
If you are interested in becoming a Postgraduate Hall Rep, you will need to write and submit a manifesto. Your manifesto doesn’t need to be long, but you should aim to cover the following points:
