A message from Ella: Injury Support Group

Hi, I’m Ella Lovibond, your Sport and Student Development Full-Time Officer at Bristol SU.  

As an athlete myself, I know how isolating and frustrating being injured can be! 

I believe that having a good support system around you during your recovery is good for both your physical and mental health, and I know many injured students feel the same way. 

This is why one of my main priorities as an Officer this year is to increase support for injured students. So, last term I worked really hard and secured funding from the University Executive Board to set up a group to support injured students.  

Now, I’m really excited to announce that our brand-new Injury Support Group is available to students from next week (w/c 10th Feb), in collaboration with the University Sport, Exercise and Health department.  

This group is available to all students, regardless of your level of sport. Any student who is injured, whether you’re an international player or an everyday runner, this group is here to support you. You are not alone in this! 

What’s involved? 

The Injury Support Group is all about creating a community where students can meet others going through similar experiences, check in with each other and gain support throughout their recoveries.  

Members of the group will also have the option to join weekly workshops on the sport psychology behind injuries, led by our fantastic Sports Psychologist Connor Grant. He will be exploring different themes each week to help students with their return to sport.

There will also be regular coffee and cake catch-ups, providing an informal opportunity for students to meet and check in with one another. 

Schedule

Activities will be taking place on Friday mornings from 9-12 across Senate House and the Indoor Sports Centre. Not compulsory, open to all members of the group to drop in to sessions as they wish. 

Membership 

The group is available to injured athletes for as long or as little as you need. We understand that everyone's road to recovery will be different, so we are here to support you.
