We have so many exciting opportunities for you here at Bristol. With over 300 student groups, sports clubs, and societies – one of the highest numbers of any SU in the country – there is always something for everyone to try, no matter what your interests.
From our Pottery Society and Tennis Club to the LGBTQ+ Society and Jazz, Funk, and Soul Society – you will be able to explore your interests and find a community full of like-minded people in so many different ways. If you're interested in browsing each of our wonderful groups, you can do so with our Student Group Finder.
Given the wide variety of student groups and societies, it's no surprise that most students join two or more during their time at Bristol. It’s also no surprise that it might be daunting to even decide what to join, and where to start...
Give It A Go! are taster sessions and events that our student groups put on at the start of each term. This means that you can try out a student group or society for free, or at a reduced cost, before committing to a membership – even if you’ve never tried it before.
If you would like to give a student group a go, then head here. Our various Give It A Go! Sessions for the first term are now live, and there is so much to get involved in.
You'll also be able to find us at the Welcome Fair on 13 September to ask us any questions you might have and chat with hundreds of student groups all in one place. There will be a Give It A Go! arena, with student group sessions that you can join in with. Come along and meet some of our student groups, try something different, and even learn a new skill!
It's a good question – and, one we've got plenty of answers for...
Joining a student group, club, or society is an easy way to meet new people while at uni. An initial interest in one of our 400 student groups, sports clubs and societies could spark friendships that will be with you for your entire uni experience and beyond. So, joining one is a great way of building your community in a new city – whilst developing your personal skills, interests, and experiences. What's not to love?
And, guess what? At Bristol, you're in great hands when it comes to student groups. After all, we're the 10th Best University for Clubs and Societies in the UK!
Here's what a current student has noticed about one of our student groups:
"How inviting and kind everyone is. I was sat on my own for a bit because I didn’t know who to talk to, and a girl came and sat next to me and started talking to me and we danced together. It was really welcoming. Even if you can’t dance, or struggle to, there’s no judgement and you get the same amount of opportunities in the dance room..."
