How can these roles boost your employability?

Gain Leadership Experience

Employers value real-world leadership experience, and these roles allow you to develop decision-making, delegation and strategic planning skills. Whether you’re leading a campaign, managing projects or representing students, you’ll gain hands-on leadership experience that sets you apart in the job market.

Develop transferable skills

These roles require you to attend several events, and utilise your public speaking, teamwork and management skills. Whether you’re advocating for student needs, coordinating events, or resolving issues, you’ll build highly valued skills that can be transferred across industries like business, law, policy and journalism.

Enhance your problem-solving abilities

In an age where AI can solve problems in seconds, employers are looking for candidates who can think critically and adapt to challenges. By working in one of these roles, you will learn how to resolve conflicts and concerns, implement initiatives, and respond to emerging issues. Through this, you will be able to demonstrate to employers your ability to solve complex scenarios.

Expand your network

Through engaging with university leaders, external organisations, industry professionals and SU staff, you’ll have the chance to make valuable connections. Networking can open the doors to future internships, mentoring or full-time roles, giving you a head-start in your desired field.

Strengthen your CV

A position like this looks great on your CV, given the range of skills and experiences you’ll be able to discuss and demonstrate. Employers will be able to recognise the responsibility, resilience and initiative you’ll have shown during your time in one of these positions – qualities they’re actively seeking. In the future, you’ll be able to provide strong examples in job interviews and explain how you have applied your skillset in real-life situations.

Whether you have a certain career path in mind, or you’re still figuring it out, there is no doubt that the skills you’ll develop in any of these roles will strengthen your future career prospects. You’ll have full support from Bristol SU too!
