“Cotham hill is only a short walk from university and its home to my favourite coffee shop, 1B! My go to is a latte but hot chocolates are also nice this time of year! In the evening its always nice catching up on a series, currently I am enjoying Greys Anatomy expanding my STEM knowledge”
Linlu, Equality, Liberation & Access Officer
“Although winter is coming thick and fast, I really recommend wandering down Park Stret and going to Swoon! It’s just across from College Green and they do the best Pistachio and Mango Sorbetto! In the summer I would normally recharge on the grass outside, but it is getting a bit too cold!”
Lucy, Student Living Officer
“In terms of favourite places to unwind, I really love going to the Goat's Gulley! It is up on the Downs and its especially nice with all of the autumn colours and a really good way to clear your head - also apparently the goats aren't owned by the council, but they're 'employed' by the council which is quite funny if it’s true - it's super close to north village too!”
Ella, Sport & Student Development Officer
“I get myself moving by heading to Clevedon Marine Lake to for a cold-water dip and swim in the sea (yes, even in winter!). There are nice cafes around for a hot drink afterwards, and lovely views over to Wales to enjoy. It's around a 25/30 min drive from Bristol, or you can get the bus, but it's worth it! Even with the cold!”
Mia, Undergraduate Education Officer
“I think my favourite place in Bristol to de-stress are the botanic gardens - they’re so peaceful and afterwards you can even do work there as they have a WiFi connection!”
Gurvin, Postgraduate Education Officer
“So when I need to take some time out, I like to take myself outside on an autumnal walk, put my headphones in and listen to music, normally Red (Taylors Versions). I would also recommend just taking some time out of Bristol, maybe visit the Christmas markets in Bath and follow it up with a good festive film!”
Bakhtawar, International Students' Officer
“Sometimes when I get very overwhelmed with my work, I turn off my laptop, leave the desk and take stroll in the Royal Fort Gardens. It is serene and green which helps me decompress and relax my mind. It’s a great place to relax and it’s also a stone’s throw from campus so I can get back when I need to.”
Taking time to relax shouldn’t be just a treat, it’s essential for doing your best work. So, take a leaf from your officers’ book, try out their top picks, to balance work with taking a break!
You’ve got this! 💪✨
