We are excited to share some news with you about an upcoming change that will bring us closer to the heart of campus. Bristol SU is adapting to become more of a multi-site organisation, with the support and some of the services you currently access from our Welcome desk on the 3rd floor of the Richmond Building moving to the 5th floor of Senate House after Easter 2024.
We regularly get feedback from students that we’re too far away, so we’re pleased to have the opportunity to bring our SU Welcome Desk, elected Officer team, Academic Advice Service, and SU staff team to the 5th floor of Senate House. What we offer students will stay the same, the quality of our services will stay the same, but more services will be delivered from Senate House. You’ll still be able to access events, activity rooms, study space and more in the Richmond Building.
All the services that currently run from the Richmond building will continue to do so until the move over. At some point in TB2 the building works on the 5th floor of Senate House will start. We’re awaiting timelines from the University and will update you when we know more.
We’ve put together the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions so you can find out more information.
We know that some students use the space on the fifth floor of Senate House, so this news may bring mixed feelings. The University's plan has always been to repurpose the space on the fifth floor of Senate House. If we weren't to take the space for our offices, then it would instead go to another University department. With Bristol SU taking the space, we’ve managed to retain the use of rooms 5.20 and 5.22 for student group activity in the evening. We’re also looking into ways to design the non-office space to have a welcoming feel, like our much-loved Bristol SU Living Rooms.
We know that there is a shortage of study space on campus, and we are actively lobbying the University to find additional space for students to study. We’re also looking to make more space for studying available in the Richmond Building during the summer assessment period.
By bringing the students' union staff and key services closer to you, we aim to be more accessible and responsive to student's needs. Our primary aim is to respond to student feedback and enhance the student experience.
We’ll continue to update you as we get closer to our office move.
