Packing for uni can seem like an impossible task. We've pulled together some top tips for kitting out your room, kitchen and wardrobe, to make sure you're set with everything you need to start your first term at Bristol.
Your Room
Your new uni room might seem bare at first, but a bit of TLC can help turn those four walls into your own little haven:
- Bedding: bring a couple of sets to save you sleeping on a bare mattress when it’s washing day.
- Mattress topper: an absolute saviour when it comes to making the bed your own.
- Posters, pictures, fairy lights: personalise your room and make it your own, it will make you feel at home much more quickly!
- Plants: come along to our Plant Potting event during Welcome Week and get your very own plant to take home!
- Hangers: begin as you mean to go on, with your clothes hung up and not flung on your chair.
- Laundry basket: when you're living in halls it might be a little walk to your washing machine - a laundry basket will make the journey from the washing machines back to your room way easier.
Kitchen
It's a good idea to invest in a few key kitchen items so that when you get bored of toast and pot noodles, you'll be ready to go.
- Crockery: two plates, two bowls and a mug.
- Cutlery: bring slightly more than one knife, fork and spoon. You’ll find your stash gradually disappears as the year goes on…
- Utensils: cheese grater, sharp knife, spatula, colander, chopping board, bottle opener and tin opener.
- Tupperware: handy for storing leftovers from bulk cooking which will save you a lot of money!
- General Equipment: Wok, saucepan and a baking tray- you’ll find you’ll rarely need more than this - don't go too crazy here, your new housemates will all bring their own stuff too - no flat needs 8 potato mashers!
- Glasses: a couple of tumblers will be enough.
