Get Into: The Creative Industries – Panel and Networking Event

Bristol SU have teamed up with the University of Bristol Careers Service to bring you Get Into: The Creative Industries – a panel and networking event for students looking to join the creative sector after graduating.

This a fantastic opportunity to hear from industry professionals about careers paths and current opportunities within media and the creative sector.

You can expect advice and insight on:

  • How to build a portfolio 
  • The work ethic and skills you need to do well in the creative industries 
  • Top tips for finding and securing a creative role 
  • How to make the most of your time at uni to support your career goals 

You also have the opportunity to network with panelists and ask questions.

Confirmed Panelists

SALLY WEBB

Senior Lecturer of Journalism @ City College London

Sally is an acclaimed journalist and television producer/director, and her work has been screened worldwide. She began her career at BBC North West, working in local radio (Greater Manchester Radio), in the regional TV newsroom (North West Tonight), for the political programme (Northwestminster), and for the documentary series (Close Up North). She moved to the BBC Political Research Unit in London, before joining the BBC Special Documentaries Unit to make special investigative programmes for Panorama, Assignment, and File on 4, the multi-award-winning documentary series on Radio 4. She later to helped create and produce/direct the multi-award-winning current affairs programme "Tonight with Trevor McDonald" for ITV.

Sally was the Director of Broadcasting and Programme Director of MA Broadcast Journalism and MA Television Journalism at City of London and continues to teach across both courses in her capacity as a Senior Lecturer. She has previously taught on the MA International, MA Investigative, MA Financial and MA Science Journalism courses, Erasmus Mundus, and the undergraduate (third years) journalism course.

 

BECKA WHITELEY

Marketing & Communications Director @ Kambe EventsShambala Festival

Kambe Events are industry leaders with over 20 years in the event industry, and a track record for producing award-winning, creatively-driven festivals and campaigns. Their flagship event Shambala Festival leads the industry for sustainability: it’s carbon net positive, meat-and-fish-free and powered only by renewables.  As well as sitting on our board as an Executive Director, Becka heads up all things Marketing & Communications for Kambe and all of its events. From branding to video, photography, web, design, app development, podcasts, print or social media, if you can look at it, watch it or read it, she’ll have had a creative hand in it.

Prior to joining the Kambe team back in 2015, Becka specialised in sustainable marketing, from electric car clubs to community farms and green energy initiatives. Outside of work, she can usually be found exploring Bristol with her dog Twig, or attending every festival she possibly can under the guise of market research…

 

HELENA NALIS

Operations Manager @ We Organise Chaos

Helena is an Events professional, with 10+ Years experience working in Festival & Touring Operations. Currently working as Operations Manager for 'We Organise Chaos' primarily working on Brockwell Live (X the Tracks, Mighty Hoopla, City Splash). Helena is also part of the Live Event Delivery Team for Block 9 at Glastonbury and have worked on a wide range of events from Operation London Bridge to De La Soul at the Royal Albert Hall. 

 

HARRY O’BRIEN

Founder/ Director @  Advanced Broadcast Graphics

Harry O'Brien, a Computer Science graduate from the University of Manchester and former engineer at HawkEye Innovations, founded Advanced Broadcast Graphics (ABG) in April 2023. Passionate about computer graphics, the arts, and innovation, Harry's goal with ABG is to empower artists in video production, providing cutting-edge tools for creative storytelling in TV, film and advertising.
