Women's Give it a Go! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Join us for our free Women's welcome session to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! Coached by Emilia who does local Women's classes at Roger Gracie Academy Bristol, this session is for Women only. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an excellent base for self defence, and helps build confidence! Bring a friend or pair up with someone new at the session! Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (also called BJJ) is a challenging but rewarding submission grappling martial art focusing on the control and positional dominance of an opponent, leading to one of many joint locks and chokeholds. It is the sister sport to Judo, and the cousin of Wrestling. It is a key component of the modern mixed martial arts and a deep and engaging sport in its own right. The ability to practice a full-body activity at a level of physical intensity that is up to the athlete's discretion makes it an excellent way to stay in shape and gain a host of athletic qualities.  **Recommended Clothing/Kit:** - The optimal kit is a rashguard and spats, shorts or leggings. However, any kind of T-shirt will work. - Whilst not mandatory we do reccomend a gum shield for added safety - Tied back hair, and no jewellery whilst sparring.  - Sliders, flip flops or slippers are also handy for leaving the mats and keeping them clean. - Water, you will work up a sweat so please stay hydrated. - A basic level of hygeine and trimmed nails for hands and feet are also considerate for your sparring partners.
