CivSoc AGM 2017/18 - 20/04/18

To all not in attendance, as follows is a summary of the annual general meeting held by Bristol Civsoc.

Summary of the Year (Topic – Speaker)

Sponsorship  - Sponsorship Secretary Camilla Chong. Our sponsors were listed by rank, Gold: AECOM, Silver: Mott Macdonald, Bronze: The Happold Foundation and Skanska. Events held for our sponsors were discussed, including the AECOM Winter Ball, Graduate and Undergraduate Recruitment Evening (GURE) (attended by employees from all sponsor companies) Skanska pub quiz.

Social Events – Social Secretaries Nick Wright and Zach Beckett. Events held throughout the year were summarised, with comments on annual events such as Pancake Day, Christmas Dinner and Halloween family socials, as well as new ideas from Nick and Zach such as the Stoke Bishop Pub Crawl and Family Karaoke.

Industrial and Informative Events – Industrial and Departmental Rep Theo Jemmott. Theo spoke briefly about attendance of traditional CivSoc events (Spotlight Lectures and GURE) and recent site visits to Crystal Sustainability Centre and Filton Airbus Extension. He also mentioned an upcoming site visit to Hinkley Point C and the popular Staff vs. Student Football Match.

Finances – Treasurer Nick Maddock. Nick summarised the expenditure and income of the year. An incoming balance of £476.92 combined with an income of £9767.92 (sponsorship, grants, membership fees and ticket sales) has left a balance for next year’s committee of £2336.57 after £7169.70 expenditure (largely on events including the CivSoc ball and Crystal Trip).

Voting on Motions

All in attendance voted in favour of reinstating the constitution, available on the Student Union Webpage.

Voting on Incoming Committee

The outgoing committee member for each role spoke briefly on the requirements and responsibilities before nominations began. Each runner for a position was allowed to talk for up to 30 seconds describing why they fit the role and what they would do if elected.

Vote of Thanks

Outgoing President Siddhant summarised the meeting and gave a vote of thanks to his outgoing the committee. The new committee were welcomed.
