I'm pleased to annouce our Easter trip for 2024 - we're off to the Greek island of Kalymnos!
Expect world class limestone sport climbing on everything from vertical crimp covered faces, overhung routes on tufas and even a bit of roof climbing!
There are an unmatched number of routes available, with over 4200 beautiful lines spread across single and multipitch.
Give this website a read for a better idea of whats available on the island (and to line up a few projects in advance!) - https://climb-europe.com/rockclimbingshop/rock-climbing-greece-kalymnos.
Accomodation
We'll be staying in Masouri, a small town right next to the sea and within a half hour walk to the crags.
The trip accomodation is split over two apartment buildings a few doors down from each other with kitchens and views of the sea, close to bars and restaurants in the town. The first building is divided into 5x 3-bed rooms and the second is 1x 5-bed room.
The cost of your ticket will be £70, which pays for the accomodation for the week.
Logistics
The trip will be from the 4th April to the 11th - this gives us 6 full days of climbing (or 5 if scheduling in a rest day).
The flights we will be taking are as follows - the outbound is essential to be able to make the ferry onto the island so make sure you definitely grab that one.
Outbound -> 08:45 STN - 14:40 KGS (Ryanair)
Return -> 15:05 KGS - 17:15 STN (Ryanair)
Alternative return option: 22:00 KGS - 00:10 LGW (Easyjet) - this is doable but will have a longer wait on Kos as we'd still need to get the early ferry there.
You will need to organise your own flights as these are not included in the ticket price.
Once trip tickets have sold we will guage interest for transport to/from Stansted airport - this would come at an additional charge and whether it is organised will depend on the number of people who would need it. If you're travelling directly from Bristol to Stansted via public transport flixbus is cheap but it will involve an overnight stay at the airport or a hotel nearby.
When we get to Kos, we'll be taking a ferry across to Kalymnos - the times are as follows:
Outbound -> 18:05 - 18:45
Return -> 05:25 - 06:10
These ferries are the only ones available on the days we are arriving/ departing so again, make sure you grab these. The trips are available on 'direct ferries'.
You will need to buy your own ferry tickets.
PLEASE NOTE - there will be additional costs of transport once in Kalymnos:
We will be taking taxis and public busses between the airport, ferry ports and accomodation. To avoid this being massively overpriced we'll be doing this when we actually get to the Island so are not adding it to the ticket price. Whilst committee coming will be happy to organise these, those on the trip will need to pay on the day/ we'll organise a splitwise.
Make sure to bring euros on the trip for this reason.
If anyone has any questions at all, drop me a message on whatsapp (Gabby on the UBMC megachat) or send me an email at wr22345@bristol.ac.uk
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!!
