Bristol Improv are the University of Bristol’s improvised comedy society. We host shows, workshops, events, and socials featuring improv comedy with the aim of building a fun and exciting comedy community for students here at the University, with no previous experience required!
You can see us in action at our Student comedy night 'Dynamite!' ("thoroughly entertaining" - Epigram) on the last Tuesday of every month, showcasing the very best of local stand up and improvised comedy.
Our weekly workshops are very relaxed, allowing attendees to participate in warmups, scenes and short improv games, or just sit, watch and enjoy! They're accessible and inclusive, it doesn't matter if you're looking to get started in comedy, want to build your rapport as an actor or just want to get involved in something new! Run by our amazing committee members, these workshops run during term time and are generally on a Wednesday, 18:00 - 20:00 in the Student's Union Stephenson Room. Check our Facebook or Instagram pages for more information!
Throughout the year we host exciting events such as scratch nights, charity fundraisers, and longform narrative shows. This is all in addition to our Halloween and Festive shows in collaboration with our sister society, the Bristol Revunions. We also make annual appearances to packed out venues at the Edinburgh Fringe which have received several excellent reviews:
5*…comic brilliance’ (The Flaneur), ‘4*…some of the sharpest young minds on the improvised comedy circuit' (Younger Theatre), ‘4*…truly hilarious’ (Edfringe Review). '5*...so slick and funny' (Inter:Mission), 'True to form, Bristol Improv Society provised laughs and originality...' (Epigram). '4* Strong characters from the get-go' (Binge Fringe Magazine).
Along side our regular showcase, 'Dynamite!' We also host a variety of workshops and talks on representation in Improv, including Queer Dynamite shows showcasing LGBTQ+ performers.
