We are a student-led team entering the Greenpower Formula 24+ competition, in which teams design, build and then endurance race a small electric car in a number of different races. It’s a competition which will put your engineering skills to the test and let you experience a small-scale electric version of the World Endurance Championship!
We are a group of (mainly) engineers who all live and breathe engineering and motorsport, but we pride ourselves on being inclusive and welcoming to all. You don't have to have any prior experience of engineering or motorsport at all, just a keen attitude and willingness to throw yourself into the task. Our central offering as a society is to help improve and expand your engineering knowledge and practical skillset, as well as having some fun along the way. Even if you aren't interested in working on the car, we have a subteam dedicated to our team's brand and sponsorship, so there is something for everyone.
We also run several other activities alongside working on our Greenpower car if you prefer something more casual. We run:
Supported by Bristol SU.
We use industry tools like CAD, CFD, FEA, milling machines, lathes, welding, composites, and 3D printing to build our greenpower electric endurance race cars and every year are aiming to level up the society and the car. Whether you've never picked up a drill or you're a certified welder and machinist we'll get you involved in building as much as you can and have a wide range of skilled members who can help you develop your skills while having a good laugh!
In this academic year 24/25 we are aiming to improve BR03 - our third greenpower car - we want to upgrade our wheels, steering, electronics and electrical systems, improve aero performance, and much more!
If you're interested in getting involved (either with Greenpower or our other activities), then follow our Instagram page for all our correspondence on sessions and socials.

We work with a number of established engineering companies to support the project with parts, advice, and funding including:
We aim to work with our sponsors to connect students and industry. We're always looking for more support for the society to allow us to more effectively get students involved in practical engineering experiences.

Q. How do I join?
A. To become a member click "Join This Group" on this page and you will be able to purchase a one year membership for £25. Come along to any sessions and introduce yourself and we'll get you involved! For more information on current sessions email Bristol_Racing@Outlook.com.
Q. How much engineering/motorsport experience do I need to have?
A. As long as you have an interest in engineering/motorsport or branding then we do not require any previous experience. All we ask for is you get stuck in and utilise the resources we provide to get yourself up to scratch which ultimately is in your best interests too!
Q: I am not sure I have the skills to work on the car, can I still get involved?
A: Yes! We are running an RC car building competition throughout the first term which will guide you through improving your skills and knowledge.
Q. Which Greenpower races will you be competing in?
A. Once we have entered this year’s Bristol-based race in September we will begin to plan for the following year. Our aim is to enter multiple race events and compete for entry into the International Final held at Goodwood each year.
Q. Will I get to drive the car?
A. Due to the endurance nature of the race, the performance gain by having lower mass is huge, therefore if you have driven go-karts/other racing vehicles before and are on the smaller and lighter side you are very welcome to put yourself forward! Another thing to note is that a driver's licence is not required to drive the car.
Q. Does the University of Bristol enter the Formula Student competition?
A. No. The University of Bristol Faculty of Engineering do not support the Formula Student competition and, as of our most recent discussion with them on this matter, there are no plans to in the near future. Due to our keenness to provide a motorsport-based engineering society that can provide the opportunity to develop the practical skills for designing and manufacturing a large project spanning across multiple engineering disciplines, we decided to enter the Greenpower Formula 24+ competition. We see Greenpower as the best way of providing our members with the practical experience they need from a society like ours, allowing them to design, build and endurance race an electric car from the word go. This has its benefits over Formula Student as it allows us to skip the tedious Concept Class entry/s and build a car in our first year that we can develop further.
