The Clay Pigeon Shooting Club is a well established, passionate and diverse club at the university, now entering our 36th year! We offer weekly shoots at Barbury Shooting School, located in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, and Mendip Shooting Ground, nestled in the Mendip Hills, south of Bristol. We attend large competitions all over the country and organise a range of socials from casual pub trips and themed bar crawls to decadent black tie dinners.
We will shoot alternating Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the academic year and welcome all abilities whether you are a seasoned shot or a complete beginner. For those new to shooting we offer tuition from Barbury where you will learn how to shoot from scratch. We also offer advanced tuition for more experienced shots.
The Club regularly competes successfully throughout the year, ranging from small friendlies with other universities in the south-west to large competitions such as BUCS and The Oxford Challenge. We field men's, women’s and mixed teams for all events where possible. These competitions not only allow our members to gain experience and confidence by shooting at different grounds, but are also a great bonding experience for the whole Club. We also hold our own competition at Barbury during the second term - This is a great highlight of our calendar and one that drew over 150 competitors last year, followed by a black tie dinner at the Marriott hotel, with music from Bristol's largest and most-respected student jazz orchestra!
We are a friendly and relaxed club who have a real enjoyment for what we do and we love sharing our sport with new people who have never tried it before. So whether you are life-long shot, someone keen to try the sport for the first time, or are just looking for the occasional escape to the countryside from Bristol, then this is the club for you.
And if that doesn’t grab you, why not join our growing number of social members who join us in the evenings for our legendary socials, as well as our dinners and competition ball? I can assure you they are most certainly not to be missed.
