Welcome to University of Bristol's Fencing Club!
The University of Bristol Fencing Club is an active and exciting club with several successful teams. We cater for all levels of experience, from complete beginners who have never picked up a weapon before, to fencers of international standard. We aim to make the club an inclusive and welcoming place for all, so please feel free to get in touch with any questions or enquiries!
We train and compete in all three weapons making our club perfect for experienced fencers, new fencers who want to try out the sport, and any fencer in between! All kit is provided by the club.
We have both Women's and Men's 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams, who regularly have home and away matches on Wednesday afternoons against other university teams, and we compete in the BUCS individual competition that runs annually as well.
We have three sessions across the week run by professional coaches and qualified student coaches, with these including footwork, bladework, sparring practice and strength and conditioning. We have different sessions for the varying levels of fencers - beginners, intermediate and advanced - and lessons from qualified coaches in all three weapons are also available during these sessions. We train in Studio 1 in the University's Indoor Sports Centre, which is central to the rest of the university buildings.
Training Times:
Monday 19:00-21:00: Team Training
Friday 18:30-20:30: Beginners Training
Sunday 14:00-16:00: Intermediate Training
As well as our weekly training sessions, having club membership allows you to attend Tuesday evening training sessions with the Bristol Blades Club in foil, épée and sabre.
Alongside training and competitions, we hold regular alcoholic and non-alcoholic club socials and events. In recent years, these have included weekly pub nights, social bouldering sessions, tie-dying kit, Christmas and summer formals and many more!
