Description of the UBMHC:
The Univeristy of Bristol Men's Hockey Club (UBMHC) is committed to being a welcoming, inclusive, and open community for players of all skill levels. We field five teams that compete on Wednesdays and weekends, ranging from regional levels to a semi-professional standard. We take pride in our fun and accepting atmosphere, with members representing all areas of the university.

Performance:
Our 1st XI currently competes in the BUCS Southern Premier League and, after winning Conference West for the 2nd time in 3 years, bounced straight back up into England Hockey National Division 1 South. The 2nd XI have retained their place in BUCS South Premier league and also won their league, West Div 1 North, to earn a spot in the West Prem next season. The performance squad, consisting of our 1st & 2nd XIs, compete and train twice per week, as well as having two additional strength & conditioning sessions. Selection for the performance squad requires a considerable time commitment and high levels of personal fitness, therefore, we recommend that any new students aspiring to be selected should attend preseason training - more information on our social media accounts.
Participation:
Our lower teams participate in BUCS on a Wednesday and the West hockey league on saturdays, but at a slightly less competitive level. In these teams, there is more of a focus on enjoying hockey with friends rather than pure performance. That said, we still aim for promotion every year!
These squads are perfect for anyone who may have less experience playing hockey or who have not played for a while to build up their skills, fitness, and confidence through match play. Again, these squads compete and train twice per week, but less commitment expected and more flexibility for players in these teams.

Pre-Season:
Pre-season for the 2024-2025 season is due to start on 12th August, running to the start of term. If you are interested in joining the club, especially the performance squad, we recommend coming along for some pre-season, where a senior member will be able to look after you for the duration of your stay! It will include plenty of hockey, both training and friendlies, along with a more relaxed social scene that encourages team bonding and getting settled into the new city. Please note you don't have to commit to the whole duration! All current and prospective members are welcome, including students starting in September 2024.
Joining the UBMHC:
The UBMHC is welcome to all hockey abilities, and it is really simple to join our club. By clicking on "Join our Group", you can select the appropriate membership for you. As our 1s and 2s squads recieve additional benefits such as S&C, our membership is tiered to reflect this with our Performance membership (£260) being more than our Non-Performance membership (£220), available for all 3s, 4s and 5s players. If you are in 1st year and unsure on the team you will be playing for, we offer a 1st Year membership that allows you to pay less at the start of the year (£150) and top up to the appropriate amount in January.
