Description

What is Korfball?

Korfball is a Dutch sport that combines the most exciting aspects of basketball, handball and netball into one!

It’s a mixed gender team sport – each team has 4 women and 4 men playing together on the court.

Most people join Korfball as beginners, so it’s worth having a go, especially if you want to try something new!

What do we do?

There are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to pick up the game and improve your skills, both in training and in matches.

We have four training sessions every week:

TUESDAY 7am-8am

WEDNESDAY 7am-8am (BUCS teams-only training session)

FRIDAY 6pm-7pm

SUNDAY 8pm-9pm

Competitively, in the 2024/25 year, we have our 1st team playing in the South West Korfball League 1 and our 2nd team playing in the South West Korfball League 2 which will mean games most weekends for all competitive members. We plan to enter our 1st and 2nd teams to compete in BUCS, the national student competition. We also have a 3rd team who play in friendly matches throughout the year.

Aside from the competitive scene, we run inclusive training sessions for the whole club. We are also passionate about our social section, where we host socials every Wednesday. Highlights of this include Pub Golf, Cops and Robbers and The Traitors. We have a family system too to pair new members with returners to help welcome them. Our formals are some of the most enjoyable nights of the year and a great chance to celebrate the end of term and have fun.

Memberships:

This year we will have two different types of memberships:

Social membership- £40

This allows access to training sessions and social events

Competitive membership- £65

This allows access to training sessions, social events and competitive events

Competitive members are required to pay £52.50 in TB1 for their membership and supplement this with a payment of £12.50 in TB2 if they remain on a team once retrials have taken place. Similarly, those who purchased social memberships in TB1 and join a team in TB2 will also be required to buy the £12.50 competitive upgrade in TB2.

Members will also have to purchase an SEH access pass in order to access the sports hall facilities (£25 at the start of the academic year paid through the SU website) which will automatically be added to your cart when you purchase a membership.

Members should also be aware of Bristol SU’s Activity Hardship Fund – a way in which you can receive aid when paying membership fees.

We understand that financial circumstances can vary, and we want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be a part of our community. To support those who may be facing financial pressures, we are introducing a membership payment instalment plan. This option is designed to make it easier for individuals experiencing financial difficulty to manage their membership fee.

Please note that this instalment plan is intended primarily for members who are currently facing financial challenges. If you believe you could benefit from this arrangement, please email od22613@bristol.ac.uk to discuss the details and how we can best accommodate your needs.

We are also hugely indebted to the Alumni Foundation and the magnificent work they do. The funds of the Alumni Foundation have helped with many activities that have benefited current students and the University at large. The Committee has a "policy" of distributing small grants throughout the University so that the generosity of alumni can be spread as widely as possible. To date over £1.25m has been distributed. The Alumni Foundation is completely reliant upon the generosity of its donors in order to undertake its work.
