Abstract: I recall, quite recently, being told by a mathematician that “if we can define it, it exists”. This is actually very false, e.g. see Russell’s Paradox.
Some would say this is frightening, but really it is amazing that, using mathematics, we can investigate the foundations of mathematics itself. My aim will be to provide some neat examples around this idea, keeping everything quite light.
Join Matrix with Charles Cox, who lectures Linear Algebra 1B and Linear Algebra 2, in a talk on logic, where he shines a light on why (hopefully) maths is built on solid foundations.
