Welcome to University of Bristol Muay Thai Society!
Muay Thai is one of the most effective and visually striking martial arts in the world, renowned as the pride of Thailand. Historically, it has dominated other kickboxing styles and is now rapidly gaining popularity worldwide due to its beauty, efficiency, and rich cultural heritage.
In Muay Thai, practitioners utilize punches, kicks, elbow strikes, knees, upright grappling (clinch), as well as sweeps, trips, dumps, and throws. Our classes are designed to accommodate all levels, from complete beginners to experienced fighters. Led by passionate and experienced student coaches, we offer sessions throughout the week. Whether you're looking to boost your fitness, improve flexibility, learn self-defence, relieve stress, or simply have fun and meet new friends, UoB Muay Thai has something for everyone!
Advanced
For more advanced members, we offer multiple opportunities to challenge and hone your skills. We have a strong culture of light sparring, where you can practice techniques and experiment with new moves in a low-pressure, friendly environment.
If you're looking to intensify your training, we host an intersociety open sparring day. This event features a set number of hard sparring matches, where members are pitted against each other in a more competitive setting. These matches are refereed and open to the public to watch, free of charge.
For those aiming to compete, we have a highly active Fight Team. Our fighters compete against other universities and train with external coaches to prepare for amateur shows. One of the highlights of the year is our UoB vs UWE Fight Night, held during the second term in the SU building, where we take on our rivals in an exciting home event!
Class Schedules
We are proud to have an accredited Muay Thai coach from the British Martial Arts and Boxing Association (BMABA) leading our sessions. With extensive training experience, including time spent in Thailand, our coach is well-equipped to guide students at all levels through authentic and effective Muay Thai techniques. In addition to our accredited coach, our committee members and coaching secretaries will also be present from time to time to assist during sessions. They are dedicated to helping members improve their skills and ensuring a supportive and friendly training environment. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner, our team is always there to offer guidance and support throughout your Muay Thai journey.

Intramural Competition
We plan to host several intersociety exhibition fights to showcase Muay Thai and highlight the skills of our members.
