Description

Who are we?

Welcome to UoB Reenactment Society! We are primarily a 12th century reenactment group, focusing on 1150—1215, but we would also be happy to support members interested in reenacting other time periods. We do dozens of shows across the country each year showcasing authentic combat, craft, cooking, religion and fashion to the public. We work closely with the nationwide society Historia Normannis, which has over 400 members.

Our combat is a safe and competitive sport that uses hitpoints and hitzones in combination with historical techniques, weapons and armour to bring High Medieval battles to the modern day. Anyone is welcome to do combat with us, just let us know beforehand so we can make sure we have enough kit for you!

However, we don’t just do combat (and there is no pressure to participate in it): another key part of our society is living history displays. These range from medieval cooking to blacksmithing, from leatherworking to woodwork, and from painting to music. We strongly encourage your own research into your reenactment interest, but this is by no means a necessity. It’s likely that you’ll also get to grips with medieval drapery and fashion, as we make and sew most of our kit.

When and Where?

  • Combat training is every Sunday from 13:00—16:00 on Durdham Down (dependant on the weather and availability).

  • Craft sessions are every Thursday from 19:00—21:00 in the Stacey Room in the Richmond Building.

  • Regional sessions are held every few months where we meet with other groups across the South West to train and craft.

  • Click "Join This Group" to get your free membership to the Society.

Socials

We host a variety of non-reenactment-based events, including non-alcoholic socials. We usually go to a pub to chat and eat after training, and we also host other social events (pub quizzes, game nights, walks etc.) regularly.
