Description

WELCOME TO BRISTOL SNOWSPORTS

UBSC is not only the University of Bristol’s biggest society, it’s the biggest university snowsports club in the country, run entirely by students, for students. We run the largest (and wildest) single uni ski trip in the world, with 2000+ UoB students once again descending on the French Alps for a week of world-class DJ sets, huge après, many pints of beer pêche, and maybe you’ll even get a couple runs in between all the madness? The FOMO is real every year, so you don’t want to miss out in 2025, regardless if you’re a seasoned pro, or have never stepped into skis or a board.

But we're not just a ski trip - back in the UK we're a fully functioning sports club with weekly opportunities for all abilities, so come see what we’re all about, and take up something new this year!

There is really something for everyone in UBSC, whether that’s getting big air in the park, tearing through a slalom course, or learning your first snowplough turns - and we pride ourselves on the supportive environment we’ve cultivated, so know that every achievement you make as a UBSC member will be heavily celebrated! And of course, if mountains just aren’t your thing, join us in our well loved second home - the bar.

TRIP

Forget everything you think you know about ski holidays. UBSC Fest is a 7 day party in the French Alps and a rite of passage for any UoB student. We’ve had years of experience running ski trips and UBSC is legendary for running the biggest single-uni ski trip in the UK, bringing 2000+ students to world famous resorts like Tignes and Val Thorens and securing huge headliners every year; Shy FX, Conducta and Girls Don’t Sync to name a few - if you don’t know, get to know ;)

There’s never a dull moment on trip; think shredding powder, dancing on tables, and huge nights out with all your friends and so much more. Check out the aftermovies from Tignes 2024 or Val Thorens 2023 to see only some of the shenanigans that were caught on camera…

(If you want to find out all that really goes down on trip, come find us at the freshers fair.)

Booking for our 2025 trip opens this autumn and our Early Bird tix selling out FAST, make sure you’re keeping up with all our socials so you don’t miss out for Main Launch!

SPORT

The University of Bristol Snowsports Club (UBSC) is an inclusive, driven, and successful snowsports club. Widely recognised as the leading university snowsports club in the UK, UBSC continues to push the limits of the student snowsports industry.

TRAINING

We have an unbeatable training program for skiers and boarders, with both our Race and Freestyle Captains, Oscar and Phoebe, dedicated to helping you reach whatever goals you’re working towards.

Training is held every Tuesday night, with Race at Mt. Gloucester, and Freestyle at Tamworth SnowDome, both with professional instructors on hand, and for those who want to get upside down or to learn how to throw their first 360, we regularly whip out the airbag at Mt. Gloucester for Big Sends Only.

All our training sessions are open to all abilities and we strongly encourage everyone to get involved! Whether you’re looking to knock down that slalom time, get clipped in for the first time before trip, or finally send the backie you promised everyone you were going to do last season, our training caters for everyone.

We always look forward to introducing people to the competitive side of the sport we love, so don't think you need to be a pro to come along! Gowann, give it a go!

In addition to our weekly sessions, we are one of the only Universities that give our dedicated members the exciting opportunity to attend our annual Christmas Training Trip for a week of intensive coaching and all the usual trip shenanigans in the Alps for a heavily subsidised price!

Our September preseason trip to The Netherlands is also a great chance to get back into skiing or boarding post summer and kickstart the season a few weeks early.

COMPETITION

Kings Ski Club runs ‘the only British inter-club ski and snowboard race league worth turning up to’, bringing together a host of universities all over the country, and whether you’re competing or spectating, the heated slalom, the big party atmosphere and fancy dress makes sure of a seriously fun series of events through the year.

BUCS points are up for grabs at two major events across the year, where racers from all over the UK compete in individual timed slalom races. This is a great chance to represent UoB and make your parents proud in a slightly more serious competitive environment.

Freestylers have the opportunity to compete at the BUDS Dryslope competition in Edinburgh, the BUCS Dome Series & the Afterjam competition at Gloucester. There's an event for everyone, with no limit on ability - freestyle comps are run in a jam format, with a really fun, informal vibe. We also run a rail jam event on trip with Jibworx - check it out here!

Send us a message, or come speak to us at the Welcome Fair for more info! We’d love to see you join us!

BEGINNERS

If you're new to snowsports and keen to learn, join us and get involved!

We run a heavily subsidised 5 session package of coaching in the UK, including lessons at dryslopes and snow domes. It's the perfect way to start your snowsports journey or just to set yourself up for UBSC Fest at Easter. We've even had beginners moving onto our regular training and joining the race team! There really is no better time or place to learn than at uni.

If you're interested in our Beginners package, come chat to our Beginners Sec, Aimee at the Welcome Fair or message UBSC on Instagram!

SOCIAL

UBSC run weekly socials on Wednesdays at The Brass Pig on The Clifton Triangle. Our socials have a reputation for a reason, for our iconic nights like the Valley Rally, and the 3-Legged Race, and with the appearance of the (in)famous Shot Ski, we strive to create a welcoming environment for everyone. So, whether you want to talk about that sick drop you hit on your season, someone to bond with over ESF trauma, or if you’ve never skied and want to get involved, come join us! Drop us a message, and Coral and Leo (our social secs) will gladly welcome you to the club.

INITIATIVES

Equality and Diversity

UBSC welcomes all Bristol students and we're committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment at every UBSC event. We have a zero tolerance policy to all forms of discrimination and we will continue working to make Bristol the best place to take part in any sport. Any discrimination will see a ban from all UBSC-related events.

We recognise there is more that can be done to improve the inclusivity of snowsports and welcome all feedback on our performance and strategy.

Snowsports has traditionally been unaffordable to many due to the high costs associated with travel and the necessary equipment. To improve the accessiblity of our sport, we reinvest the majority of our membership revenue into subsidising our sporting opportunities in the UK, from beginner training sessions to national competitions.

Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is paramount to our sport as climate change continues to worsen the conditions in the mountains. UBSC is committed to minimising the environmental, social and economic impact of our activities internationally and locally, raising awareness of the importance of sustainability to snowsports and beyond.

Charity

As a club, we place great importance on charity work. We raise money every year for charities such as POW and SnowCamp through club fundraisers.
