What better way is there to spend a weekend than surfing with your friends!? Throughout the year we run weekend trips for around 40-60 people, to practice our skills on the UK coasts. Read on for a typical weekend trip... Leaving Bristol on the Friday evening, we all load on to a coach bound for a hostel somewhere along the coast, armed with wetsuits, boards and endless excitement. After arriving and having a quick spoons dinner, it's off to bed to prepare for a big day of surf. Saturday is the full day of shredding, with our experienced beginners reps on hand to provide lessons for those who want to improve their surfing. Enjoy the surf, exploring the coast, eating pasties and generally living the surfer life, before all reconvening in the evening for whatever fun our social secs have cooked up! Sunday is for more surf, before we all head back to Bristol in the evening.
All trips include:
The UOBSurf lock- up is filled with useful kit: foamies, hard boards, wetsuites, skimboards, roof racks, fins/leashes and much more; all available for the use of our members. Depending on your membership, you will be able to use any of this kit for free throughout the year to take your mates on a weekend strike mission, or rent it from us at a rate of £5 / day. Not a bad deal at all!
This year we also have a BRAND NEW fleet of surfskates, so watch this space, we're planning on running regular surf-skating sessions throughout the year. Surf skates are specialised skateboards that help improve your surfing skills on land- perfect if the waves are flat!
We will have some merch available to buy from the start of the year, as well as a drop of beanies, boonies, hoodies and more later in the year!
Possibly the highlight on the UOBSurf calendar. Each Easter time we pack our bags and head on an adventure for a week of glorious surf and sun. This really is one not to be missed! With all of your meals, accommodation, kit and lessons included, this is a great way to spend time with all your favourite shredders, and improve your surfing in the process! Watch this space for more info on what we have in store later in the year...
In the meantime, check out these pictures and videos from our previous years to get a taste of what these trips are all about:
We run weekly socials, usually on a Tuesday evening. Fan favourites are karaoke, our Christmas formal, and Surf Sundays, where we head to a pub for a couple of drinks and some chilled games.
We also run Surf Families! If you choose to opt in you'll be assigned two lovely Surf parents and lots of siblings! Family Nights are a great way to meet different people in the society, and your parents can be there with some tips and tricks for your next surf too.
The Instagram and Whatsapp are the best place to keep up to date with what our lovely Social Secs have cooked up for the week!
At the moment, we are organising things for the beginning of term and lots of fun events for the near future. For the next few weeks:
As always, make sure you stay locked on our Instagram and join our Whatsapp chat, so you don't miss any updates on these events and many more throughout the year!
Stay groovy and can't wait to meet you all xxx
