James, known by everyone as Archie, is a second year Engineering Maths student and founder of The Bristol Cheese Society.
As old-fashioned as they come, he is a fierce lover of cheese and a collector of everything imaginable. He is also immensely proud of a British camembert outshining the French at the British Cheese Awards and the World Cheese Awards.
Treasurer — Emily Charnley
Hi!! I’m Emily and I’m currently a 2nd year studying Economics!
I never ate cheese much when I was younger, so I’m currently on my journey to trying some of the best and most exotic cheeses available and I’m excited to see how The Bristol Cheese Soc can help with that.
Secretary — Louis Anscombe
Hello! My name is Louis and I'm a second year Biochemistry student and, in addition to being a member of the Cheese Board, I am Chair of the Student Council of the 2024/25 university year.
My passion for cheese comes from my french upbringing. Although I lived in Germany, I went to a french school and I spent many months in France for my holidays. There, I was exposed to the richness of the french cheese culture and I'm proud to be part of the Bristol Cheese Society. Let's get some french cheese in here!
Social Secretary — Clemmie Gwinnell
Hey, I’m Clemmie and I am a second year Anthropology student.
Cheese has been a staple food for me since I was a child. I am particularly partial to a Camembert or whipped Feta. I can’t wait to eat cheese with the society and throw lots of fun events.
Events Coordinator — Malena Montoiro Kelly
Malena is a second year biochemistry student. Born in Germany, she's half-Spanish, half-Irish and filled with that violent zest for life which governs all that she does; from salsa to skateboarding, from crochet to croquet, her breadth of experience and interests are without end.
In her role on The Cheese Board, Malena is the arbiter of event decisions and a splendid photographer.
Equality & Sustainability Officer — Lotty Bennett
Lotty is a second year Aerospace Engineering student who, due to her upbringing in Yorkshire, has a great love for all cheese but especially Wensleydale and Cranberry. She is also a passionate musician, and enjoys playing the flute and piano in the Jazz Funk and Soul society.
As the Equalicheese she hopes to help extend her love for cheese to as many people as possible, despite allergies or intolerances standing in the way.
Social Secretary — Lucas Dick
Lucas is a second year aerospace student and social media secretary.
Classical musician by day and cheese connoisseur by night, he cannot wait to indulge in the new cheeses throughout the coming year! Hopefully, his brainwaves will be less cheesy in the conventional sense...
Social Media Secretary — Henry Bretz
Hi, I'm Henry. 2nd year Aerospace Engineer. Lover of the outdoors, flying, good food and the finer things in life... such as sitting down for a cheese and wine night with friends.
Aside from being Social Media Sec on the cheese board, I'm Vice President of Athletics for 2024-25 and hold a membership to the University Air Squadron.
Absolutely! Wine tasting and appreciation is one of our core objectives; as a result, you will see a variety of wine pairing evenings in addition to cheese pairing evenings.
Why is Cheese Soc so amazing?
We have a young, dynamic committee at the moment who have all got long term goals for the society and have plans to implement these throughout their holding of the role.
Why doesn't the membership cover every event?
Cheese is currently incredibly expensive — for the really special ones, at least — so we try to reduce the cost of events as much as possible.
Do I need any knowledge?
Not at all! Lots of our members knew nothing about cheese when they joined (we hope that that is no longer the case!!).
Anything else?
