Unity and Diversity in Law Society

Championing Inclusion, Empowering Success

We are the University of Bristol's first and only law society solely dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession. Our mission is to empower our members by celebrating differences and fostering an environment where every individual thrives. We stand by the belief that my diversity is my strength.

At our core, we embrace and advocate for the change needed to make the legal profession more inclusive and accessible. We aim to create a culture that enables individuals to flourish, proudly celebrating their unique backgrounds, identities, and circumstances.

Why Join Us?

Our society is unwavering in its commitment to destigmatizing and demystifying the legal profession, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, can aspire to and succeed in a legal career. By joining us, you'll have access to:

  • Exclusive Networking Opportunities: Our partnerships with top firms like Ashurst, Dentons, Eversheds Sutherland, Mayer Brown, A&O Shearman, Simmons and Simmons, and more, give you a competitive edge in securing commercial opportunities.
  • Personalised Application Support: Gain insights into application processes through exclusive workshops, mock interviews, and mentorship programs hosted by leading law firms.

And we offer so much more than a traditional law society:

Grassroots Series

We have previously launched (and aim to re-launch) our 'How-To' events—a beginner-friendly series that equips you with the skills needed to break into the legal profession. These sessions go straight to the heart of representation, ensuring that members from underrepresented backgrounds are prepared, both practically and aspirationally, for the recruitment process.

This series includes:

  • How to Fast-Track Your Year
  • How to Stand Out to Law Firms
  • How to Network
  • How to Build Commercial Awareness

These events are relaxed, collaborative, and open to everyone—emphasising collaboration before the competition.

Career Opportunities

This year, we're offering a range of career opportunities to highlight the value of diversity in the workplace and help you align your strengths with your career goals. Firms such as Ashurst, Dentons, Eversheds Sutherland, Mayer Brown, A&O Shearman, Simmons and Simmons, and more, will host workshops exclusively for our members, sharing invaluable insights and tips for excelling in their application rounds.

We've also partnered with several charitable organisations to offer mentorship programmes and pathways for diverse aspiring solicitors and barristers, expanding opportunities for members from all backgrounds.

Competitions

In the second term, we'll be holding competitions that allow you to showcase your unique perspectives in your applications. All participants receive training beforehand, so no prior experience is required. Prizes include one-on-one phone calls with graduate recruitment teams at elite firms, providing a chance to network and build connections that could set you apart.

With membership priced at only £2, what are you waiting for? Sign up today!
