Welcome to the University of Bristol Calisthenics Society!
Who are we?
Here at UBCS our aim is to defy gravity. We're on a mission to impart both beginner and advanced calisthenics moves, ensuring that anyone – whether you're a seasoned pro or just curious – can achieve feats of superhuman strength. All you need is a pull up bar. Our doors are wide open to everyone, reflecting our belief in the power of mutual learning and the importance of elevating calisthenics to the status of an officially recognised sport.
There is nothing more electrifying than unlocking a new move in calisthenics. What's truly exceptional about this sport is its adaptability – you can conquer it in the park, your cozy flat, or an open field. There is endless opportunity for progressive overload from additional weight vests to an ever-advancing library of dynamic and static skills. So while we eagerly anticipate your participation in our sessions, the flexibility of calisthenics empowers you to enhance your skills whenever and wherever you choose.
Pioneering its way since 2022, we're charged with excitement to kick things into high gear and meet potential members at the 2024 Welcome Fair. With students at the helm, we're all ears for your suggestions, crafting sessions that resonate with your aspirations. Otherwise, just show up and see what’s planned for the session!. Don't just spectate; participate. Help us ignite the calisthenics revolution!
Our plans for 24/25:
In 2024 and 2025 we aimed to ground ourselves as the go-to society for bodyweight training. Having attracted hundreds of sign-ups at the Welcome Fair and delivering accessible GIAG sessions for beginner, intermediate and advanced athletes, we are confident that we can build on our position in the upcoming academic year.
This year we have exciting plans to hold more beginner-friendly sessions on a weekly basis, run frequent socials, and provide high-level advice to members who particularly want to take their training to the next level. We will deliver member-only content through our own website, which will give specific guidance for building strength and achieving particular moves, such as muscle-ups and front levers.
In our sessions, we will be teaching push-ups, pull-ups, handstands, ab workouts, chest workouts, shoulder workouts and much more! As well as hundreds of variations of these exercises, we will be training more intermediate-level moves such as front levers, back levers, planche, muscle-ups, one-arm pushups and even more at Brandon Hill during the week.
We are very excited to meet all students at the Welcome Fair and even more students throughout the year at sessions. Please know that we are very welcoming of members all the way through the year and always want to meet new people to do calisthenics with, whether it's our first session of the year or our last. We hope to see you soon :)
